Single malt has been made in America for many years, although it is not as defined and protected by laws as it is in other countries, particularly Scotland. After years of advocacy by the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission and its distiller-members, as well as public feedback, the most recent decision from the Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau (TTB) of the U.S. Government finally lays down the distinctive identification standards for the category.
